The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to track the history of recipes back into antiquity, in truth as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, these, old recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
Moving on, there are a couple of interesting cookery books dating from the 1300s - a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books are unconnected to the indian curry that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of meals cooked for the rich people of the time. Later, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and rosemary. The introduction of these new culinary ideas caused a torrent in books on cooking, some of which are now in private collections. The revolution that is television brought us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Phoenix Cake_ recipe.
