Poppy Seed Muffins Recipe


Ingredients

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
1/2 tsp grated orange peel
2 each eggs
2 cup all purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 cup milk
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup chopped pecans
5 tbsp poppy seeds


Directions

Cream sugar, butter and orange peel. Add eggs, one at a time,
beating well after each. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and
nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well
after each addition. Fold in raisins, nuts and poppy seeds. Spoon
batter into greased muffin tins until about 3/4 full. Bake at 400ø
about 20 minutes.

Over the following few centuries, the upper classes competed with each other to offer the most exotic banquets, and because of this chefs and their recipe collections could command a high salary. Notwithstanding that, it was during the 1800s that cookery and recipe collections really came of age. Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, devoted much of their lives to assembling, trying out, and publishing the recipes that were being prepared for the better households.

The arrival of TV gave us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books.

Which brings us neatly up to date and the internet revolution, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on our site.
