The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of `recipes` back into distant history, certainly as far as ancient Egypt, and maybe even further. However, these, old cookbooks were just very simple hieroglyphic instructions for food preparation.
Later on, we have a couple of cookery books which date from the 1300s ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they are not about the curry that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of meals on the tables of the nobility of the period. By the advent of the twentieth century, recipe books were highly popular mostly due to higher levels of literacy, leisure time and having more money to spend. |
