Ingredients
1 lb pork sausage, bulk
7 cup cabbage, shredded
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium pepper, sweet red, thin slic
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 cup sour cream
1 hamburger buns or pieta
1 bread.
Directions
In a large skillet, brown sausage, drain. Add cabbage, onion, red
pepper, water, salt and sugar; mix well. Cover and cook for 20
minutes or until the vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.
Stir in sour cream and heat through. Serve on buns or pita bread.

The History of Recipes
Experts have found proof that recipes existed way back into antiquity, at least as far back into history as early Egypt, and maybe further still. Interesting though that is, mostly, these old cook books were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
Interestingly, the oldest recipe discovered so far, according to food historians are some stone tablets in the Sumerian language describing the making of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making anyone who tried it feel blissful and exhilarated. During Roman times 25BC a roman called Apicius compiled a few scripts describing recipes prepared by wealthy Romans. In his scrolls, Apicius recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and desserts, something we still use today. Additionally, he recounts how the cooks of his times made use of many different aromatic flavors, including a few you will know for example bay, mint and dill. During the succeeding few centuries, the rich and powerful families of Wesstern Europe competed with each other to offer the most extravagent meals, and because of this the best cooks and their collection of recipes could command a high salary. However, it wasn`t until the 1800s that fine cooking and recipe books reached a high level of popularity. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the US, dedicated the best years of their lives to collating, trying out, and writing down recipes of the day. Like it or not, the introduction of television brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on sites such as this. |
