The History of Recipes
It is possible to trace the history of `recipes` far back into ancient history, in truth as far back into history as the Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, these, old recipes were just very simple hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
Later, there were a couple of interesting cookery books from the fourteenth century - a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are not about the indian curry that is popular today, but instead accounts of the types of meals served to the rich people of the period. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods, spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices like basil and coriander. These new foods and tastes was responsible for an increase in books on cookery, many of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. The introduction of television gave us TV cooks and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
