The History of Recipes
We can track the history of meal recipes way back into the far past, certainly as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these ancient cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Later, we have two recipe books which were published in the fourteenth century - a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books have no connection with the indian curry that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menus of the rich and powerful of the time. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods and spices from the holy land, including spices like coriander, basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs created an explosion in books on cookery, some of which are kept safe in private collections. The arrival of television brought us TV cooks and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to access thousands of recipes such as those found on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Praline Bars recipe.
