The History of Recipes
Academics have proved the existence of recipes far back into distant history, in fact as far back as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. Having said that, these, old cook books were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for food preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we find some interesting books from the 1300s : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they are unconnected to the curry that we all know today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals prepared for the rich and powerful of that period. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations was responsible for an eruption in publications on food, most of which still exist in private collections. The introduction of television gave us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Pretzels Hard & Soft recipe.
