The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existence of recipes way back into distant history, at least as far into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, mostly, these ancient cook books were just very basic pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Later, there were two recipe books dating from the 1300s ; a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these books are unconnected to the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead accounts of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the rich and wealthy people of those days. Later, in the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of spices and herbs from the holy land, including spices such as parsley and basil. These new herbs and spices caused an eruption in cookery books, some of which are now in private cookery archives. The arrival of television brings us TV cooks and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to access thousands of recipes such as those found on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Pinwheel recipe.
