The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of `recipes` far back into the far past, in fact as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, sadly, these ancient recipes were just basic pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Later, there are a couple of interesting cookery books dating from the 14th Century : a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they have no connection with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather accounts of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the rich and wealthy people of that period. By the time we get to the 1900s, recipe publications were increasing in popularity due to increased literacy, more leisure time and having more money to spend. |
