The History of Recipes
Food historians have tracked the existance of recipes back into history, at least as far as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, sadly, these ancient records were just basic hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are two interesting books published in the fourteenth century : a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are nothing to do with the indian curry that we all know today, but instead descriptions of the types of food prepared by the chefs of the upper classes of those days. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many foods and spices from the holy lands, including coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and tastes was responsible for an outbreak in books on cooking, most of which are kept safe in academic collections. Like it or not, the introduction of television brought us cooking programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Riganato recipe.
