The History of Recipes
Academics have proved the existance of recipes back into ancient history, in truth as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, in the main part, these old recipes were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we have a couple of interesting cookery books which appeared in the fourteenth century ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these are nothing to do with the indian food that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of food prepared for the rich and powerful of that time. By the arrival of the 20th century, cooking publications were increasing in popularity mostly as a result of better eduction, people having increased leisure time and being a little richer. |
