The History of Recipes
We can track the history of meal recipes far back into the distant past, in fact as far back into recorded history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these ancient records were just primitive hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius created a few scripts showing how to cook the recipes prepared by his fellow Romans. In his publication, Apicius recounts how the meals were split into appetizers, main meal and desserts, a style of dining still practiced today. Additionally, he describes how the Roman cooks made use of many different herbs, including a few you will know like basil, rue and dill. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and spices from Arab countries, including spices like coriander, parsley, and rosemary. These new spices and herbs led to an explosion in books on cookery, many of which are kept safe in academic collections. The introduction of the TV gave us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Scampi recipe.
