The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be observed back into the distant past, certainly as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. In practice though, mostly, these ancient cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are a couple of cookery books from the 1300s - a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, they are unconnected to the spicy food that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the rich people of the time. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes was responsible for an eruption in cookery books, many of which still exist in private collections. The arrival of TV brought us TV cooks and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Supreme Casserole recipe.
