The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of written recipes way back into history, at least as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, these, early cook books were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, there were a couple of interesting books from the 1300s ; one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these two books are unconnected to the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of meals on the menus of the rich and powerful of that period. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery publications are in high demand, due to higher levels of literacy, more spare time and having more money. |
