The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of written cooking instructions back into the distant past, at least as far back as the ancient Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. However, in the main part, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Moving on, there are two recipe books which date from the fourteenth century - a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but instead accounts of the types of meals prepared for the nobility of the period. Later, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices like coriander, parsley, and basil. These new herbs and spices caused an explosion in publications on food, most of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us TV cookery programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the internet revolution, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Chinese Pasta Salad recipe.
