The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of `recipes` back into ancient history, in truth as far back as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, sadly, these early recipes were just primitive pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As we move on, we have two interesting recipe books which were published in the 14th Century ; a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these books are unconnected to the indian food that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of food prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of that time. Later, in the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and spices from the East, such as parsley and basil. These new foods and spices created an eruption in recipe publications, many of which still exist in private libraries. The revolution that is television brings us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Chinese Style Apple Salad recipe.
