The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be traced far back into the distant past, in truth as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, in the main part, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we find two interesting recipe books dating from the 1300s ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are not about the spicy food that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the upper classes of the period. When we get to the twentieth century, cook books were starting to become popular due to higher levels of literacy, leisure time and having more disposable income. |
