The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of transcribed cooking instructions way back into antiquity, certainly as far into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old records were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, there were a couple of interesting recipe books dating from the 1300s ; one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these are not about the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather accounts of the types of meals eaten by the nobility of that period. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery books were in high demand, due to better eduction, leisure time and being a little richer. |
