The History of Recipes
Experts have traced the existance of recipes far back into history, in fact as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. In practice though, these, ancient records were just simple hieroglyphic instructions for preparing food.
Closer to modern times, we find a couple of books which were published in the 1300s ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but instead descriptions of the types of food prepared for the upper classes of those days. By the arrival of the 1900s, cook books were greatly in demand mostly as a result of more people being able to read, increased leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
