The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of transcribed cooking instructions far back into the distant past, in truth as far back into history as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, generally, these old recipes were just very basic pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, we find a couple of interesting cookery books dating from the 1300s : one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these books are not about the curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the menus of the upper classes of the time. Later, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us many new spices and herbs from the East, including spices such as coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes created an increase in publications on food, most of which are now in academic collections. The introduction of the TV brings us celebrity TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Covered Cherries recipe.
