1 1/2 cup finely crushed chocolate
1 wafers
6 tbsp butter, melted
8 oz package cream cheese,
1 softened
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp all purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
4 eggs
4 squares (4 ounces) semisweet
1 chocolate melted
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 square (1 ounce) semisweet
1 chocolate
1 tsp butter
Directions
For crust, in a bowl combine chocolate wafer crumbs and melted butter.
Press crumb mixture firmly on bottom and 1 3/4 inches up sides of a
9-inch springform pan. For filling, in a large mixer bowl beat cream
cheese till creamy. Combine sugar, flour and salt; stir into the
cream cheese mixture. Add eggs all at once. Beat just till combined.
DO NOT OVERBEAT. Stir in the 4 squares melted chocolate, moik and
vanilla till combined. Turn into crumb-lined pan. Bake in a 325 oven
for 60 minutes or till center appears set. Remove from oven; cool 15
minutes. Loosen sides of pan. Cover and chill at least 2 hours. In a
small saucepan over low heat melt the 1 square semisweet chocolate
and butter. Drizzle in lattice design atop cheesecake. Chill till
chocolate is set.

The History of Recipes
We can track the history of written recipes way back into history, at least as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. However, generally, these early records were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for preparing food.
In fact, the oldest recipe discovered so far, according to experts in ancient history are a few ancient tablets in the Sumerian language which describe the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made those who drank it feel `blissful`. Progressing into Roman times around 25BC a roman called Apicius compiled a collection of documents describing recipes prepared by his fellow Romans. In his publication, he recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and desserts, something we still use today. Aspicius tells us how the cooks of his times were skilled in the use of many herbs, including a few that will be familiar to modern cooks like basil, fennel and parsley. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought back many foods and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and rosemary. These new foods and spices caused a surge in recipe books, most of which are now in private collections. By the advent of the twentieth century, cookery publications are in great demand, mostly as a result of higher levels of literacy, increased leisure time and a general increase in wealth. The introduction of the TV brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on the site you are now reading. |
