The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be traced far back into the distant past, in truth as far into history as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, sadly, these ancient records were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there were some interesting books dating from the 1300s - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are not about the indian curry that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of that time. When we get to the 1900s, cookery books are greatly in demand due to more people being able to read, leisure time and having more money. |
