The History of Recipes
We can read the history of meal recipes way back into distant history, in fact as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these old recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, there were two interesting books which were published in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but instead accounts of the types of food served to the rich and wealthy people of those days. Later, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from middle-east cuisine, including rosemary and coriander. These new foods and spices created a surge in recipe books, most of which are now in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us cooking programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the internet revolution, permitting everybody to access thousands of recipes such as those found on this recipe site. |
