The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to follow the history of written cooking instructions far back into history, in fact as far back into recorded history as the early Egyptians, and maybe further still. Interesting though that is, these, early cook books were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Closer to modern times, we find a couple of books dating from the 14th Century ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are not about the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather recipes for the types of meals cooked for the nobility of the time. Later, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including rosemary and coriander. The introduction of these new culinary ideas caused a torrent in books on cooking, most of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV gave us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Cinnamon Sunrise recipe.
