The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of written recipes way back into distant history, in truth as far as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. However, mostly, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple hieroglyphic instructions for meal preparation.
As we move on, there were two interesting cookery books which appeared in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these books have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but instead descriptions of the types of food served to the rich and powerful of those days. By the time we get to the 1900s, cookery publications were increasing in popularity mostly as a result of increased literacy, more leisure time and having more money to spend. |
