The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of `recipes` way back into the distant past, in truth as far back into history as early Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that is, mostly, these early recipes were just basic pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
Later on, in The time of the romans around 25BC a man called Apicius assembled a few documents which described recipes enjoyed by wealthy roman citizens. In his scrolls, he describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and desserts, something that is very familiar to us today. This early Roman chef recounts how the chefs of Roman times were skilled in the use of many aromatic flavours, including a few you will know for example thyme, mint and asafoetida. Later on in the 1400s, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from the Middle-East, including spices like coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and tastes caused an explosion in books on cookery, some of which are now in private cookery archives. The arrival of television brought us celebrity chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to access thousands of recipes such as those found on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Classic Pecan Pie recipe.
