The History of Recipes
Recipes as a concept can be found way back into the far past, in truth as far as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe even further. In practice though, mostly, these ancient cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have two interesting cookery books dating from the 1300s : one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is served today, but rather accounts of the types of food eaten by the rich people of the period. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices such as coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes led to a surge in books on cooking, the majority of which still exist in private cookery archives. The TV revolution brings us celebrity chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Clover Leaf Rolls (Potato Dough) recipe.
