The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of written cooking instructions back into the far past, in fact as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. In practice though, sadly, these old cook books were just very basic pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Moving on, we find some books published in the 14th Century ; one book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, they are unconnected to the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but rather accounts of the types of food on the menus of the rich and powerful of that period. By the advent of the 1900s, cook books were greatly in demand as a result of more people being able to read, people having more free time and having more money. |
