The History of Recipes
We are able to read the history of meal recipes back into history, in truth as far as ancient Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that maybe, these, old cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
As we move into The time of the romans around 25BC a man called Apicius compiled a few documents which described recipes prepared by the Romans. In his works, Apicius tells us how the roman meals were separated into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and dessert, a very modern way of dining. He also tells us how the ancient chefs used many aromatic flavours, including many that are still in use today such as basil, rue and asafoetida. During the next few centuries, the wealthy families of the West tried to lay on the most exotic meals, and as a result the best chefs and their recipes increased in prestige. Even so, it wasn`t until the 1800s that fine cookery and cookery books really came of age. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated their lives to collating, trying out, and recording popular recipes of the day. The revolution that is television brought us celebrity chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Coca Cola Thick Bar B Que Sauce recipe.
