The History of Recipes
It is possible to trace the history of `recipes` back into the far past, in truth as far back as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these old records were just basic pictorial recipes for food preparation.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire around 25BC a roman called Apicius assembled a number of documents which described recipes enjoyed by his fellow Romans. He recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main course and dessert, a very modern way of dining. Aspicius tells us how the Roman chefs made use of many aromatic flavours, including some that we all recognise for example thyme, fennel and asafoetida. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices like coriander, parsley, and basil. These new foods and tastes caused a torrent in recipe publications, the majority of which are now in private libraries. The arrival of TV brings us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cocoa Bundt Cake recipe.
