The History of Recipes
Historians have tracked the existence of recipes far back into history, in fact as far into history as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further. In practice though, mostly, these ancient recipes were just very simple pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Progressing into The time of the romans 25BC a roman called Apicius wrote a number of documents showing how to cook the recipes cooked by wealthy Romans. He describes how the meals were divided into appetizers, entrees and afters, a style of dining still practiced today. This early Roman chef informs us how the Roman chefs made use of many spices and herbs, including many that are still in use today such as thyme, rue and parsley. Over the next few centuries, the powerful and rich houses strove to serve up the best banquets, and as a consequence, cooks and their collection of recipes were highly sought after. Notwithstanding that, it was during the 1800s the formal cooking and recipe collections really came of age. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, dedicated the best years of their lives to collating, testing, and recording recipes for their fellow cooks to enjoy. The introduction of television gave us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cocoa Mix Ii recipe.
