The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of meal recipes far back into the far past, at least as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, these, ancient records were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, we find some recipe books published in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they are nothing to do with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the rich and powerful of that time. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought back many foods and spices from Arab countries, including spices like parsley and basil. These new culinary innovations was responsible for a surge in books on cooking, many of which are now in academic collections. The introduction of the TV gave us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to access thousands of recipes like those on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Coconut Oatmeal Cookies recipe.
