The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to trace the history of transcribed cooking instructions way back into distant history, in fact as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. However, these, ancient cook books were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Moving on, there were some books which were published in the 1300s : a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they are not about the indian curry that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of food prepared by the chefs of the rich and wealthy people of that period. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery publications were greatly in demand as a result of more people being able to read, increased leisure time and having more disposable income. |
