The History of Recipes
Experts have tracked the existence of recipes back into the distant past, in truth as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. However, generally, these early recipes were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of interesting cookery books which were published in the fourteenth century - a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these two books are nothing to do with the indian curry that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of food on the menus of the upper classes of the period. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from the East, including spices like coriander, parsley, and basil. These new foods and spices led to a surge in recipe books, some of which are now in academic collections. The introduction of television brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to access thousands of recipes such as those found on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cornbread Apple Sage Stuffing recipe.
