The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be observed way back into distant history, in fact as far as pharonic Egypt, and potentially, even further back. However, in the main part, these ancient records were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were a couple of books which were published in the fourteenth century - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books are unconnected to the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of meals cooked for the nobility of that time. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery publications were starting to become popular as a result of increased literacy, people having increased leisure time and having more money. |
