The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to follow the history of written cooking instructions back into distant history, in fact as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, generally, these early records were just very simple hieroglyphic instructions for food preparation.
Moving on, we have a couple of books which were published in the 1300s ; a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the menus of the rich people of the time. By the advent of the 1900s, recipe books were starting to become popular as a result of higher levels of literacy, increased leisure time and having more money to spend. |
