The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of written cooking instructions far back into ancient history, in fact as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these old records were just basic hieroglyphic instructions for meal preparation.
Moving on, there were a couple of books from the 1300s - a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books are not about the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of food served to the rich and powerful of the time. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery books are greatly in demand due to more people being able to read, more free time and a general increase in wealth. |
