The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of meal recipes way back into antiquity, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, in the main part, these ancient records were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As we move on, there were a couple of interesting recipe books which were published in the fourteenth century : a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books have no connection with the spicy food that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich and powerful of those days. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices like basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes created an outbreak in manuscripts on cookery, the majority of which are now in private collections. The arrival of television brings us cooking programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Peppermint Ice Cream recipe.
