The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existance of recipes back into the distant past, in fact as far into history as the ancient Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early cook books were just very simple pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we have two interesting recipe books dating from the 14th Century : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these books are unconnected to the spicy food that is served today, but rather descriptions of the types of food prepared by the cooks of the rich and wealthy people of those days. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new spices and herbs from the Middle-East, including coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices created an eruption in cookery books, the majority of which are now in private collections. The introduction of television brought us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the internet revolution, permitting us all to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Peppermint Pretzel Canes _ recipe.
