The History of Recipes
It is possible to read the history of meal recipes back into the far past, in fact as far back as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these early cook books were just very simple pictorial instructions for preparing food.
Later on, there were a couple of books dating from the 1300s ; a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these two books are unconnected to the curry that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of meals on the menus of the upper classes. By the time we get to the 20th century, cookery publications were starting to become popular mostly due to better eduction, more spare time and having more disposable income. |
