The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as an idea can be traced way back into ancient history, at least as far back into history as the Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. However, generally, these old cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have a couple of interesting books from the fourteenth century - a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these are unconnected to the indian curry that appears on menues today, but rather recipes for the types of meals served to the nobility of the time. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods, spices and herbs from the East, including spices like coriander, parsley, and rosemary. These new foods and spices prompted an eruption in recipe books, some of which are now in private libraries. The arrival of TV brought us TV cookery programs and the spin-off recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Philly Stuffed Mushrooms recipe.
