The History of Recipes
We are able to track the history of written recipes back into antiquity, at least as far back into recorded history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these ancient records were just simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As we move on, there are a couple of interesting books which date from the 14th Century ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books have no connection with the curry that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of food cooked for the rich and wealthy people of that time. By the advent of the 20th century, cooking books were in great demand, mostly due to better eduction, people having more spare time and having more money. |
