The History of Recipes
Recipes as a concept can be tracked way back into ancient history, at least as far into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. However, sadly, these ancient cookbooks were just very basic pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have some recipe books which were published in the 1300s ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these two books have no connection with the indian food that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of food served to the wealthy. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from Arab cooking, such as parsley and basil. These new foods and spices led to an outbreak in recipe publications, the majority of which are kept safe in private collections. The TV revolution brought us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to access thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Poo Man's Soup recipe.
