The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be tracked way back into the far past, certainly as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, these, old cook books were just simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have a couple of interesting recipe books published in the 14th Century - a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these have no connection with the curry that is popular today, but rather accounts of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the wealthy. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many foods and spices from the holy lands, such as coriander, parsley, and basil. These new culinary innovations caused an outbreak in manuscripts on cooking, many of which are now in private cookery archives. The TV revolution brings us cooking programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Popcorn Macaroons recipe.
