The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of `recipes` way back into distant history, in truth as far as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe even further. In practice though, mostly, these ancient cookbooks were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
As we move on, there were two interesting cookery books which date from the 1300s ; a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these are not about the indian food that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals on the menus of the nobility of the period. By the advent of the 20th century, cookery publications were increasing in popularity mostly due to more people being able to read, increased leisure time and being a little richer. |
