The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be tracked far back into ancient history, in fact as far back into history as the Egyptians, and maybe further still. Having said that, mostly, these ancient cook books were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were some books from the 14th Century ; a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they have no connection with the indian food that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of meals served to the rich people of the period. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery books are greatly in demand due to higher levels of literacy, more leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
