The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be tracked back into the far past, in truth as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe further still. In practice though, sadly, these old recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have two interesting recipe books published in the 14th Century - one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of food served to the nobility of the time. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and spices from the Middle-East, including coriander, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes prompted a surge in manuscripts on cookery, most of which are kept safe in private collections. The TV revolution brings us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Pork Lo Mein recipe.
