The History of Recipes
We can read the history of `recipes` back into antiquity, in truth as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these ancient records were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, there are a couple of interesting cookery books which appeared in the 1300s : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of food prepared by the chefs of the upper classes. Later on in the 1400s, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from the Middle-East, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices prompted an outbreak in manuscripts on cookery, most of which still exist in private libraries. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Potato Dough (For Rolls) recipe.
