The History of Recipes
We can track the history of `recipes` way back into distant history, at least as far back as pharonic Egypt, and maybe further still. Interesting though that is, these, ancient records were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Later, we have two interesting books published in the 1300s ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they are nothing to do with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals enjoyed by the rich and powerful of that time. Later, in the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from the Middle-East, including spices such as parsley and basil. These new spices and herbs was responsible for a surge in manuscripts on cookery, some of which are now in private collections. The arrival of television brought us cooking programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Potato Pot Pie recipe.
