The History of Recipes
We can read the history of written recipes back into history, in truth as far as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. In practice though, mostly, these old records were just primitive pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, there are two interesting cookery books published in the 1300s - a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books are unconnected to the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather accounts of the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of that time. Later on in the 1400s, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and spices from the holy lands, including spices such as coriander, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes created a torrent in books on cooking, some of which are now in private cookery archives. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Russian Salad (Ensaladilla Rusa) recipe.
